Round trip

The bike route is temporarily not available as a round trip because a bridge along Hemsila, below Grønlio, has collapsed. The option to cross over Eikredammen is also closed.

Bike route

Hemsila is one of Hemsedal's greatest prides. On this bike route, you will be able to experience the river in its full glory. The route starts at Langeset, where you can find parking options, and continues up a nice gravel road. There is some climbing at the start, so an e-bike can be handy, until it levels out on the way back up along Hemsila, where you get a nice view of the crystal-clear river. The route is mostly on gravel road, but there are also sections of tractor road and trail, so a trail bike is recommended.

Author's advice

Take your time to take in all the beautiful nature, older buildings, and stunning waterfalls that you will experience on this route.

Turn-by-turn directions

The map shows the route from Langeset, but it is also possible to start from Ulsåk or the center and bike via Torsetvegen and then onto Hødnsvegen (sign Markegård cabins) to Langeset.

From Langeset, follow the gravel road through the gate and further up. After quite a bit of climbing, follow the sign to the left to Krosstølane. You then bike along the mountainside on gravel road, then tractor road which again becomes gravel road. Afterward, the road starts to go downhill towards Robru and the last stretch down to Hemsila is on asphalt. Just before the bridge over the river, turn left onto tractor road that follows Hemsila upwards again. Eventually, the tractor road becomes more like a trail, before it at about Eikredammen becomes tractor road, then gravel road again for the last stretch back to the starting point at Langeset.

Equipment

Parts of the round trip are on trails and it is recommended to use a bike suitable for that.

Directions

From the center, drive east to Ulsåk. Continue along Rv52 until you see signs for Waste Reception/Torsetstølane. Turn right over the bridge and left towards the reception. Park before the gate or, for example, at Kiwi and continue by bike on Torsetvegen. Follow the gravel road to the left (Hødnsvegen) at the sign to Markegård.

Parking

Parking is available at Kiwi in Ulsåk or at the Langeset waste reception.
