Bike route

A truly beautiful route with views over the lake Vavatn and the summer farm settlement Vabuleino. Along the way down to Hydalen follows a small rushing waterfall. Hydalen with Hydalsvatnet is a green and lush summer farm settlement with exciting nature and flora surrounded by steep wild mountains. Fishing is possible in Hydalsvatnet and Vavatn (fishing license can be purchased via Vipps). Topp20 peaks Harahørn (red) and Ranastøngji (black). Alternatively, a hike to Putnaklanten or Hydalshjallen.

Hydalen offers beautiful nature and flora surrounded by steep wild mountains and waterfalls. The route can advantageously be cycled with an electric bike. Along the way, you pass Harahorn Mountain Farm where it is possible to charge your electric bike. On the way in, you cycle past the Topp20 peaks Harahorn and Ranastøngji, as well as the route to Hydalshjallen (for hiking only, not cycling). Hydalshjallen can also easily be reached on this route, offering a beautiful viewpoint over Hydalen.

Author's advice

It is recommended to take a trip to Harahorn, as well as visit one of the wonderful Topp20 peaks that the route offers.

Another strong recommendation is to take the walk up to Hydalshjallen.

Equipment

A bicycle helmet and weather-appropriate equipment are strongly recommended.

Safety information

Remember a bike helmet and a water bottle on a warm day :)

Directions

From the center towards Tuv, turn right at the intersection towards Grøndalen. Follow the summer road to Harahorn Hotel (Hydalsvegen) and start at the parking lot by Fjellstølane, alternatively Vavatn/Oset (toll road for car NOK 40). The route then goes along a gravel road beside the water before it turns steeply down into the beautiful nature reserve Hydalen. Can be cycled with a bike trailer.

The route can be made shorter and with less elevation gain if you drive in and park at Vavatn (toll road).

Parking

Parking can be done at the parking lot by Fjellstølane or Vavatn.
